Rare Mid-1800's Bone and Brass Rosary, Instuments of the Passion
| |
Rare, Civil War Era collector rosary, not intended for daily use but rather as prized part of an antique rosary collection. This is a very unusual mid 1800's bone and brass rosary that is completely intact and extremely difficult to find. Probably originated in France but was collected here in the United States. It must have come to the states with its owner a century and a half ago and was well taken care of over those decades. Some of the bone beads show deterioration, look closely in the photos to see this. They are all intact but several have areas of deterioration. The center is the upside down Miraculous Medal with "O Marie Concue Sans Peche P.P.N." Oh Mary Conceived without Sin Pray for Us. The rare small (1 1/8") brass crucifix is impressed with Jesus on one side and the instruments of the Passion on the reverse. There are unusual brass wrapped portions on either side of the Pater beads. This rosary is quite rare, it is extremely unusual to find a rosary of this age in this condition. Total length of the rosary is 17".
